It seems Avengers: Endgame may knock Avatar off of the top spot as the highest-grossing film of all time after all! Ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 2nd, Endgame is set to hit cinemas again “next weekend with the added bonus of some additional footage that didn’t make it into the original film.
The news was confirmed by none other than Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige whilst he was speaking with comicbook.com during the Far From Home press junket in London. Feige revealed the news when asked about the possibility of a re-release with new footage.
“We are doing that. I don’t know if it’s been announced. And I don’t know how much… Yeah, we’re doing it next weekend.”
In a separate interview with Screen Rant, Feige provided further details, including that the additional footage will come after the credits and involve “a few surprises.” Notably, Endgame was the only Marvel Studios film to not have a scene during or after the credits.
“Not an extended cut, but there will be a version going into theaters with a bit of a marketing push with a few new things at the end of the movie. If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute and a few surprises. Which will be next weekend.”
Endgame is currently $45m away from becoming the highest-grossing film of all time. But with it being in cinemas now for over 2 months it looked like it would fall just short of being number 1. However this fresh lease on the film will no doubt drive fans back to the cinema eager to see the new additions and will be keen to have the film fresh in their minds ahead of Spider-Man’s release. The Avengers want that #1 spot, whatever it takes.
