Avengers: Endgame’s poignant ending of course involved the death of Tony Stark. Tony’s character came full circle after 11 years, once again declaring “I am Iron Man” before snapping his fingers to defeat Thanos’ army. The very same phrase that ended the first Iron Man film and set up the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It has been previously mentioned that the “I am Iron Man” line was a very late addition to Endgame, the scene filmed during post-production. But it wasn’t the only line that they tried, as at one point the film had Tony Stark saying “fuck you” or “fuck off” to Thanos. Whilst talking with The Empire Film Podcast, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely laughed about the idea that they toyed with.

“I think there was ‘fuck you’ at one point. Didn’t he say ‘fuck off’? He may have said it…you do a lot of takes. Like can we really end all this on a complete swear? On a ‘kiss my ass Thanos’.”
It’s unclear whether there was actually a version filmed with Stark telling Thanos to fuck off, if it was an idea flung around between the filmmakers or if Robert Downey Jr. just decided to try it whilst on set during the different takes.
