It’s finally official. Robert Pattinson is Batman. He is set to make his mark as the iconic character in 2021’s The Batman.
Whilst details are still emerging, there are a few things that have been confirmed. Matt Reeves is on-board as the director and has said the film is an original, noir-driven story and not an origin story. However it will take a look at a younger Batman, which is why Warner Bros. were keen to cast a younger actor for the part and at 33 Pattinson fits the bill. It will also be connected to the DC Extended Universe. And the latest from UK Production News confirms that filming will commence this Autumn in London. This would keep in line with the planned release in 2021.
It is believed that the studio want Pattinson to sign on for a 3 movie deal. This is to be expected given the desire studio’s now have to build cinematic worlds after the wild success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course Warner Bros. have been trying this with the DC Extended Universe over the years but have been less successful in their efforts.
Of course Pattinson is most known for playing Edward Cullen in the Twilight-saga but the actor has gone on to distance himself from the role and prove his acting prowess in films such as Good Time. Next on his release schedule is The Lighthouse which recently premiered at Cannes Film Festival to rapturous acclaim.
