It had been long speculated what role Katherine Langford would play in Avengers: Endgame ever since she was cast. The general belief among fans was that she would play a grown up Cassie Lang, Ant-Man’s daughter. But in the end, the actress didn’t even appear in the final film so her role has remained a mystery until now. Endgame directors Anthony & Joe Russo were guests on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and revealed that Langford’s scenes were shot before being left out of the final film. The character Langford would be playing? A grown up version of Tony Stark’s daughter, Morgan.
Anthony & Joe Russo:
There was an idea that we had that Tony was gonna go into the metaphysical way-station that Thanos goes into, where Thanos saw his daughter when he snapped his fingers. And that there was going to be a future version of his daughter in that way-station. We showed it to a test audience and it was really confusing for them. What we realised about it was, we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter. So it wasn’t resonating with us on an emotional level which is why we moved away from it. The intention was that his future daughter forgave him, gave him peace to go. The idea felt resonant but it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.
