Sean Gunn has revealed in an interview with Tulsa World, that Disney “have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote.” Sean is known for his role as Kraglin in both Guardians of the Galaxy movies and performs the motion-capture for Rocket Raccoon; he is also the brother of James Gunn. James was fired from his role as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 amidst the resurgence of old, controversial tweets. Since the firing, it has been unclear if his script will be still be used as it was reportedly handed into Disney and Marvel Studios shortly before he was fired.
“I don’t really know yet what’s going on with Guardians 3. I know that Disney still wants to make the movie. I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote.” Sean told the website. “But I know that they plan on making the movie. I had not been contacted at all for a while, but I was recently contacted by Marvel saying, ‘Yeah, we do plan to make this movie. We’re just not sure when yet.’ ”
This is the first news that the movie is still going ahead since it was reported in August that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had been put on indefinite hold whilst Disney regrouped. The original plans called for pre-production to begin in early 2019. The movie still does not have an announced director but fans are clamoring for Taika Waititi to takeover after seeing his work on Thor Ragnarok, and interestingly the director met with Marvel regarding a future film a few weeks ago.
