There seems to be a new
clickbait article about Dave Bautista every few hours so we’re here to try and set the record straight. The Guardians of the Galaxy star is currently doing press and media to promote his new film, Final Score, and given how outspoken he has been on social media about James Gunn’s firing, he has unsurprisingly been getting questions about his Marvel future during interviews. Have a look below at what has actually been said by the Marvel actor in regards to Avengers 4; Guardians 3 being on hold and potentially being fired.
Has Dave Bautista spoiled Avengers 4?
Not really. Before Avengers Infinity War was released, Bautista had openly said he will return in Avengers 4 and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Now whilst Drax was a victim to Thanos’ snap, it isn’t shocking to hear that the character will be returning in the sequel.
“I’m gonna be in Avengers 4. I’m gonna be in Guardians 3.” – Collider
“We definitely see more Guardians in the upcoming Avengers, which we’ve already shot.” – Good Morning Britain
Bautista may ask to be released from his contract
Shortly before being fired by Disney, James Gunn handed in his completed script for Guardians 3. It’s currently unclear if the studio will be using Gunn’s script for the 3rd installment, but Dave has said if they do not then he doesn’t want to do the film.
“I’m going to ask them (Disney) to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me. I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.” – ShortList
“I don’t know if I want to work for Disney.” – Jonathan Ross Show
Bautista has speculated that Guardians 3 being on hold may impact Avengers 4
It was revealed that the planned production start of January or February 2019 for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been put on indefinite hiatus whilst Disney regroups. This could result in changes to Avengers 4 and the Guardians’ planned story-lines.
“It’s on permanent hold for now. That may make a difference in what they do with our characters in Avengers 4. To be honest with you, right now I really don’t know. But I know I’m in Avengers 4. I’ve shot most of it already. I do have 2 days of reshoots. But other than that, I have some really great scenes that I hope they use. But I guess that it remains to be seen what they’ll do with the characters.” – Digital Spy
Bautista’s thoughts on losing his role as Drax or possibly being fired
Dave has been supportive of James Gunn since the controversy began and he doesn’t seem to be concerned about losing his job, valuing his relationship with the director over a payday.
“I’m very aware that this could cost me a job I care for very much. It’s an integrity issue and loyalty issue. So, no, I’m not going to bite my tongue for anything, that’s just who I am as a person. I’ve tried to be very choosey about what I say and how I say, I don’t necessarily mean to be disrespectful but at the same time I have to say what’s on my mind and in my heart. If it costs me a job then that’s just what happens. You can’t threaten a poor man with poverty; I grew up poor, I know what it’s like to be poor. I’m not afraid of losing money, it means nothing to me. I will wrestle in backyards in front of 10 people if I have to to make a living, so I’m not gonna be flexible with my integrity. I’m just going to speak my mind and try not to be disrespectful. This is directed at certain people, not Marvel or any of those executives who I love very much.” – heyuguys
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has a planned release of 2020 but it’s now unclear if that will still be the case.
