E3 Day 1 – Microsoft Conference

The most exciting time of the year for gamers is in full-swing as E3 kicked off on June 10th with Microsoft & Bethesda press conferences; We’re pretending EA never happened the day before.

The Microsoft conference was mostly forgettable. There was nothing that had the big wow factor despite revealing Halo Infinite and Gears 5. Xbox seems to reliant on the exclusive IPs they already have instead of trying to create the next big thing and runs the risk of being blown out of the water by Sony’s conference. There was lots to be excited for but the majority is not exclusive to Xbox; Cyberpunk 2077, Fallout 76, Kingdom Hearts 3Devil May Cry 5. Announcing they have acquired 4 studios and created a 5th bodes well for the future and has the potential to bring in new games that can allow Xbox to compete with PlayStation. Xbox’s Game Pass is the best thing the console has at the moment which others are not competing against and the more that gets added to Game Pass is to the benefit of gamers everywhere.

At it’s core, E3 is all about the games, so here’s the games that caught our attention the most!

Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition
Vesperia was one of those rare games that made me want to complete every quest. It’s perhaps my favourite in the Tales Of franchise and the announcement of the Definitive Edition coming this winter had me fist pumping away last night. It’s been long enough that I can’t remember everything so it will feel like playing the game from scratch but still give me that nostalgic feel.

Devil May Cry 5
It’s so good to finally have a continuation of this series. I was a fan of the DMC spin-off with a younger Dante but it’s time to get back on track. Whilst not much was revealed, longtime series director Hideaki Itsuno had such enthusiasm for this new entry in the beloved franchise that it has me hopeful for a stellar outing for Dante and Nero.

Jump Force
This is probably the game that has me the most excited; anime the game. Again whilst not much was revealed it seems to be steering away from the basic fighters we are used to from anime collaborations such as Jump Stars. Having Ryuk and Light appear at the end of the trailer has been my E3 moment so far.

Gears 5
Although the reveal surprisingly didn’t excite me, I have to mention Gears 5 as it is one of my top game series of all time. The story seems to be heading in a better direction than Gears 4 which can only lead to better things, but I’ll wait for more information on this one before passing judgement.

Honourable Mentions
Fallout 76
– I’ll dive into this when talking about Bethesda.
Kingdom Hearts 3 – I love the Kingdom Hearts franchise and have been waiting for the 3rd game for what seems like forever. We finally have a release date! I think the world knows what to expect from the newest installment now and we are all just waiting to explore new Disney worlds.
Cuphead in the Delicious Last Course – I’m thrilled to have some new content to play from one of the best games released last year. There a few games that can offer such euphoria when you finally defeat a boss like Cuphead does.
Cyberpunk 2077 – CD Projekt Red have a mammoth task on there hands in there first new release since The Witcher 3, one of the best games of all time. Heading from the Witcher’s days of old to a dystopian future offers them the chance to deliver another special game.
